I had to have known it was just a matter of time, but today I started a MenstroMonster series over at my yoga blog. It will likely be intermittent -- and cyclical. My plan is to discuss how various aspects of my yoga practice -- poses, breathing, meditation, etc. -- intermingle with my uterus of doom. :)

From here. The Back Up Your Birth Control campaign to raise awareness about emergency contraception is organizing a Day of Action on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

It's true that EC is available over-the-counter for people age 17 or older in the United States. It's not true that everyone is aware of when they might want to use EC.

If you've used emergency contraception, had a friend/partner use emergency contraception, needed EC and couldn't get it, etc. -- consider registering and writing your story on Wednesday. (The link also has other options for folks who don't wish to blog their personal stories for whatever reason.)

This is an issue that has disturbed me so profoundly lately that I need to rant about it where ever I can. Cross posted on IUD divas and elsewhere.

On Friday the U.S. House of Representatives voted to strip Planned Parenthood of all federal funding. Why?

Basically, during a seminar on safety at my school, a cop said that women should not dress like sluts if they don't want to get raped. It has been said that he is going to apologise, but it doesn't change the fact that this is still an unfortunately predominant way of thinking. Anyway, the article explains it more and there are a lot of comments, but just something to be aware of, especially if you're in the York University community.

There is currently a bill which proposes to redefine rape and I wanted to make sure that anyone who wished to could have an opportunity to sign the petition. Mother Jones has a very informative article about it.

Call for Papers:
19th Biennial Meeting of the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research
Chatham University
June 2, 2011 – June 4, 2011

The 19th Biennial Meeting of the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research (SMCR) will be hosted in Pittsburgh’s East End at the Woodland Campus of Chatham University, June 2-4. 2011.

This year’s conference theme, Embodied Consciousness, Informed Choices: Critical Perspectives on the Menstrual Cycle, offers a stimulating opportunity to explore a variety of perspectives on the menstrual cycle. Submissions addressing the conference theme, broadly interpreted, are encouraged.

We welcome submissions that involve research, theory, public policy, health care, clinical applications, media representations, educational materials, and art related to the physiological, sociocultural, psychological, or cross-cultural aspects of the menstrual cycle. For more details, visit the conference web site.

Though the conference web site says the deadline for submission is December 1, 2010, the email I just got from Dr. Kissling says the deadline has been extended to January 17, 2011.

Women's Experiences with IUDs

Women's Experiences with IUDs

Have you had an Intra-Uterine Device (IUD)? Do you love or hate IUDs?

My name is Leah LeBlanc and I am a graduate student at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. I am conducting a study on women’s experiences with non-hormonal IUDs such as Paragard, Flexi-T or Nova-T. Specifically, I am interested in how and why women decide to use IUDs as a form of contraception, whether having an IUD improves or reduces sexual satisfaction and pleasure, and how women view IUDs.

This study is composed of some multiple-choice and some open-ended response questions. All answers will remain anonymous, as I am not collecting any information that could directly be used to identify participants (e.g. ip addresses, email addresses, etc.). This study has been cleared by the University of Guelph Research Ethics Board.

Please join Edenfantasys in welcoming Suki and OhMiBod to the Community Interview!

We’re so excited to learn more about OhMiBod and get to know Suki!

Suki worked at Apple, started OhMiBod with her husband, Brian, and together they are making this work – while raising their two children! Sounds a bit busy, huh? And now, OMB was included in the Grammy awards swag bags and talked about by Rush Limbaugh – that’s pretty crazy! This is definitely an unconventional success story.

Music lovers should be interested in this one too, for sure! Combining music and pleasure – what could be better? Just check out the new award winning Freestyle – OhMiBod’s latest interactive pleasure product. It’s one thing to listen to music during sex, but to have music actually get you off? Awesome!

So go ahead and ask – how did Suki come up with the idea for what has been termed the ‘i-Pod vibrator’? What was the road to the first product like? Is it hard to balance everything? Did Steve Jobs wish Suki well with embarking on this venture? What’s Suki’s favorite song to “test” products to? The questions are endless!

Ask as many questions as you’d like; you can even post about and link to the interview from your blog if you want to. Feel free to share your thoughts!

Who doesn’t love a giveaway?

Suki will be giving away prizes for her favorite 3 questions! We’ll be announcing the winners in this thread next Wednesday, the 10th.

The prizes are….

1st Prize: The newest OhMiBod vibe, the Freestyle!

2nd Prize: The OhMiBod Club Vibe or the OhMiBod signature vibe – winners choice!

3rd Prize: a $25 Eden Fantasys gift card

The interview is open for questions for a full week, from today (March 2nd) – Tuesday, March 9th.

Everyone, please join us in a warm welcome to Suki and OhMiBod!
